Project by Equinox | The Climb Review

Project by Equinox has had a lot of buzz since it opened last year. Known as a “think tank for fitness,” Project has instructors audition for a teaching spot and demonstrate that they have the entrepreneurial and training chops to execute their ideas. The current roster offers a variety of dance-based, cardio, strength, and yoga classes. Adam Sanford’s The Climb falls into the HIIT/strength category and left me wishing I could make it one of my regulars.

Equinox Soho — Spotlight!

One of Equinox’s best offerings is the All Access membership, which allows members to go to any location (except for Equinox Sports Clubs and other premium locations) for $240/month in New York City. While this might not sound like a bargain to gym-goers, it is if you’re a boutique fitness junkie. Even monthly arrangements at studios like Fhitting Room or Tone House can cost upwards of $400 per month, and they often only offer one type of workout. For fitness generalists like me, who like to do a combination of yoga, barre, and circuit training but with consistency, Equinox is a great deal. Through All Access, I’ve had the opportunity to visit locations all over Manhattan. And I have to say – Equinox Soho is one of the best ones.

Spiderbands Jump Strike Review

New York has been blessed (or plagued, depending on how you look at it) by a lot of trendy fitness studios in the past few years. Take Switch Playground, for example, a 21 station circuit training HIIT class. Or Tone House, notoriously one of the hardest workouts in New York City, where students split into teams and do relay races that will make your abs hurt for days. With new studios opening up all the time, it can be difficult to differentiate the ones that are truly innovative, like Switch and Tone House, from the ones that are just glorified circuit training or boot camp workouts. Enter Spiderbands — one of the most novel ideas I’ve come across in all of my time in New York.

Epic Hybrid Training Review

The week between Christmas and New Years is always a bit of a twilight zone for those of us who don’t take off from work. So many of our colleagues are on vacation, which can make it hard for those of us who are actually in the office to focus. This year, I decided to start my New Years resolution a week early and find more time during the day to get moving. Armed with my new FitBit Charge 2 (which I’m obsessed with), I leveraged Epic Hybrid Training’s $29 for one week introductory deal and did three lunchtime classes in a row. What I learned? If you live near their NYC locations in Bryant Park or East 54th Street and want to get in serious shape, this small studio may be just the right fit for you.
